City Ballet of LA presents The Nutcracker Swings, a jazzy twist on the holiday favorite
DESCRIPTION
The Nutcracker Swings is City Ballet of Los Angeles tribute to the classic tale of the Nutcracker. Set in 1942 during WWII in Hancock Park and the iconic Cocoanut Grove nightclub, the audience will be swept away to another world while dancers swing to the sounds of Tchaikovsky and Duke Ellington. In this version of the classic family ballet, Maria, the heroine falls for the leading man, Jim, a WWII hero who gives Maria the Nutcracker doll which kicks off a whirlwind journey of Christmas Wonder. Performances take place on Friday and Saturday, Dec 19 & 20 at 8pm at The Wilshire Ebell Theatre, 743 South Lucerne Blvd., Los Angeles 90005.

Under the artistic direction by former American Ballet Theatre dancer and Los Angeles native Robyn Gardenhire founded CBLA with a mission to reflect the diversity of Los Angeles multicultural community. Presenting work that blends classical and contemporary dance theater, CBLA explores untraditional themes and incorporates music from all over the world. In keeping with the tradition of classical dance, City Ballet of Los Angeles is preserving the standards of excellence in its presentation of the art of dance. CBLAs Ballet School offers training at low or no-cost to children from economically depressed areas and provides educational outreach programs to thousands of elementary school students annually.

Tickets start at $20.00 and are available through brownpapertickets.com/event/908770. For Group Sales please call 323-292-1932; Opening Night VIP Reception $150 includes Orchestra Seating and Pre-Reception at 6:30 p.m. For more information, please visit CityBalletofLA.org

JP Mogul Jazz Entertainment Presents: "Freda Payne: 'Coming Home for thr Holidays":
DESCRIPTION
Freda Payne Set To Perform At Vibrato Jazz Grill,
Will Sing Christmas Songs and Music From Latest CD

Freda Payne, the legendary singer who has been entertaining audiences for decades with her soulful and silky voice, is set to perform Christmas music as well as songs from her new CD, Come Back To Me Love (Artistry Music), during her one-woman show, Freda Coming Home For The Holidays, on Tues., December 23, at Herb Alperts Vibrato Jazz Grill in Bel Air, California.

Backed by a live band, Payne, a Detroit native, will perform two shows (7:30 and 9 p.m.) that will include a mixture of her signature R&B hits as well as a return to the big band classics she was known for in the 60s. The show is produced by JP Mogul Entertainment Presents.

The sultry songstress, best known for the R&B mega-hit, Band of Gold, is showing no signs of slowing down as she continues to play dates across the country in support of her latest CD. Come Back To Me Love features six selections penned by Gretchen Valade and Tom Robinson of Mack Avenue Records (including the title track, "You Don't Know" and "I Should Have Told Him"), as well as eight selections of golden favorites (I Guess Ill Hang My Tears Out To Dry, Id Rather Drink Muddy Water) all of which not only feature her original stylings and interpretations, but also highlight her talents as a skilled jazz and torch singer.

Come Back To Me Love is a 14-song album featuring Grammy Award-winning arranger Bill Cunliffe's musical arrangements that includes Kenny Rankins waltz, "Haven't We Met" and the sweltering "Lately.

The CD, which has received great reviews, marks Paynes return to the big band and string classics she enjoyed in the mid 60s.
