Eddie Floyd
Hailing from Detroit by way of Montgomery, Alabama, Eddie Floyd is a soul/R & B singer best known for his work on Stax record label in the 1960's and 1970's. Having signed as a songwriter to Stax Records in 1965, he teamed with Steve Cropper to write songs for Wilson Pickett and Booker T. & The MG's. In 1966, Floyd recorded a song intended for Otis Redding, but Stax released Floyd's "Knock On Wood" which launched his solo career. This song has subsequently been recorded by over a hundred different artists ranging from David Bowie to Count Basie. Floyd's song "Raise Your Hand" has also been covered by Janis Joplin and Bruce Springsteen. In July 2008, he returned to Stax Records and released his new album Eddie Loves You.
