Statement of Supplemental EEO Outreach Activities:
1. Mt. Wilson FM Broadcasters, Inc. and Global Jazz, Inc. maintain an intern program designed to assist members of the community to acquire skills needed for broadcast employment. The program allows interns to gain hands-on experience in various aspects of broadcast operations so that they may develop their skills for future broadcast employment. The interns are afforded the opportunity to work in many departments with experienced station personnel so as to gain a broad overview of the nature of the stations' varied operations. During the period of August 1, 2010 - July 31, 2011, the Companies have had many interns participating in the program. All of the university students participating in our intern program are in various stages of college studies.
2. Mt. Wilson FM Broadcasters, Inc. and Global Jazz, Inc. contribute to the Southern California Broadcasters Association Scholarship Fund. The fund was created to provide scholarships for students in the field of Radio Broadcast Communications. Mt. Wilson FM Broadcasters, Inc. and Global Jazz, Inc. personnel were involved from its inception, including its organization, assessments, vesting, voting on scholarship recipients, and helping to determine the form of outreach to be used each year.
3. On October 12, 2010, Southern California Broadcasters Association President, Mary Beth Garber, conducted a workshop at Mt. Wilson FM Broadcasters, Inc. and Global Jazz, Inc. to provide EEO and anti-discrimination training to managers of the radio stations. Material covered included the FCC's current rules and guidelines regarding employment outreach, anti-discrimination procedures in the hiring process and creating practices that abide by the FCC's guidelines. In attendance - Lawrence Tanter, Program Director for Global Jazz, Inc., Stephanie Levine, General Counsel for Global Jazz, Inc. and Mt. Wilson FM Broadcasters, Inc. and Denise Maynard, Special Projects Manager/Public Affairs Director for Global Jazz, Inc. and Mt. Wilson FM Broadcasters, Inc.
4. On October 14, 2010, Denise Maynard attended the Annual Public Service Media Workshop, presented by Southern California Broadcasters Association (SCBA) and Print, Interactive, Radio and Television Educational Society. The workshop is designed to help non-profit organizations throughout Southern California obtain optimum benefit from their use of broadcast time.
5. On January 20, 2011, Andrew Loyola, Production Assistant for Global Jazz, Inc., attended the Pathpoint (connecting People, Purpose and Communities) and served on a panel discussion about careers in radio to the disabled.
6. On January 29, 2011, Stephanie Levine, General Counsel for Mt. Wilson FM Broadcasters, Inc. and Global Jazz, Inc., attended an employment law seminar by the LA County Bar Association at Southwestern Law School.
7. On March 21, 2011, Tonya Campos, Program Director for KKGO-FM, attended a 90 minute Careers in broadcasting workshop at California State University, Long Beach. The workshop provided students with information on the nature of jobs in broadcasting and the skills that are most compatible with each department.
8. On February 8, 2011, Denise Maynard attended The NAACP Professional and Executive Diversity Job Fair at the Embassy Suites at LAX North. Public service announcements for this Job Fair aired on KKGO/FM and KGIL/AM from January 29 - February 7, 2010.
9. On March 31, 2011, Stephanie Levine attended an employment law seminar held by the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
10. On April 4, 2011, Denise Maynard attended the National Career Fair at the Holiday Inn Long Beach Airport Hotel. The event offered job seekers an opportunity to meet face to face with dozens of employers.
11. On July 26, 2011, Duncan Brode, Station Engineer for Global Jazz, Inc., attended a workshop at the Burbank Holiday Inn. Topics discussed were updates for engineers on broadcast related technical issues such as EAS, HD, along with digital audio and demonstrations.
12. During 2011, Human Resource Consultant, Tami Wiersma, conducted training for Mt. Wilson FM Broadcasters, Inc. and Global Jazz, Inc. that included group training for performance reviews. Also, Sexual Harassment Awareness and Prevention training was conducted with all supervisors and managers and was led by Cal Chamber.
13. From August 1, 2010 - July 31, 2011, Mt. Wilson FM Broadcasters, Inc. and Global Jazz Inc. ran EEO announcements that stated the company is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer and is committed to broad and inclusive outreach for hiring full-time employees. |
